Sam Bozeman, keys
Born and raised in Knoxville, TN, Sam played piano, guitar, bass, drums, and, yes, baritone horn, in various bands through junior high school, high school and college. He co-founded and played with the New England original dance band Right Time (nee Lost Time) for 14 years, the acoustic trio Simple Pleasures, and the jazz quintet, Lip Service. He completed the jazz composition program at Berklee in 1990, studying with Herb Pomeroy and Ken Pullig among others. He has composed pieces for all of the bands, as well as co-founding and writing/producing film, theater, and commercial pieces for Notable Productions before leaving the business in the mid-90's. With competing priorities of career and co-raising three children, he played sporadically in public until returning to a full-time music career in 2017, writing and performing with The Visitors (an all-original fusion quartet), The Unexpected (a jazz quintet with vibes and vocals), and the duo, Blum and Bozeman. He is thrilled to be part of Fenno Street Jazz, to have the chance to create a musical experience collectively that is more than the sum of its parts, and for the opportunity to write and perform exciting and challenging music for a wider audience.
